UCSF Cardio Club

The UCSF Cardio Club intends to create a forum for multidisciplinary discussion regarding complex cases for physicians and APPs that care for cardiovascular patients. The audience will be welcomed from all across the bay area and beyond. Each discussion will focus on a pre-selected theme and include didactic about the subject and related research/best practices, and then have a robust discussion about a case example that is relevant to the theme. Panelists will include information about how they used evidence-based approaches and/or teamwork, problem-solving, or other tactics that allowed them to navigate a complex situation. Participants will gain new perspectives on complex care management, and be informed about subject matter they may not have been familiar with yet.

Our objectives with this forum are to:

1) Train and learn across silos; offer a setting to communicate and educate across disciplines who work together in the clinical setting.
2) Offer learnings about approaches and management in complex cardiovascular cases that may be applied to future patient care situations.
3) Use evidence-based practices to inform care decisions. Teach about how to take educational or academic learnings into the clinical setting.

Professional competencies that may be gained or improved by participating in CardioClub events may include:

  • Medical knowledge about complex cardiovascular cases
  • Interpersonal and communication skills
  • Professionalism
  • Work in interdisciplinary teams
  • Values/Ethics for interprofessional practice
  • Teams and teamwork
